North London Victorian Terrace Family kitchen

This kitchen is a cover star, having graced the front of Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathrooms magazine and it’s easy to see why the room was given the esteemed position in the glossy! Set in a leafy North London conservation area, the Victorian terrace has been renovated from top to bottom with the kitchen at the heart of the plans “The kitchen was really important to me, as it’s where the family spends so much time together. It was crucial that we make it a really wonderful space to be in, but also very workable” explains our client. Working with Architecture 201 the narrow space was widened with a side extension. One of the most distinctive aspects of the kitchen is the joyful mix of colours and materials, for which our client says they drew inspiration from the Paddington film and the beautiful interior of the Browns’ house at 32 Windsor Gardens! The cabinetry includes Eccles combined with a little Ruskin Blossom whilst London Plane wood brings texture with its flecked grain; these three materials are manifested together in the bespoke tri-colour drawer units. The softness of this mix is in contrast to the rich and glossy green of the splashback tiles from Mandarin Stone. The worktop by Dzek includes large chunks of Italian marble – Rosso Verona, Giallo Mori, and Verde Alpi – the colours echoing those of the tiles and cabinets.

Clapham Victorian Villa Kitchen

Set in a beautiful Victorian villa, the renovation of this kitchen started with much loved furniture our client wanted to centre the layout around – the Tulip dining table and Ernest Race chairs. The backdrop to the bright pops of colour provided by these design classics, is the calming Brockwell Moss. We dedicated one side to storage with tall cabinetry, including a single-door larder and a large Fisher & Paykel fridge. Here we have also included a nook for the kettle, coffee maker and toaster, which helps keep worktop space uncluttered. Opposite there’s open shelving for displaying treasures, balancing the tall cabinetry on the other side and keeping the room feeling spacious. Wood finishes bring textures to the room with a little dash of Sweet Chestnut grain in the recessed handles, a rich walnut floor and speckled chips from the worktop by Foresso. This project featured  in House Beautiful magazine and when asked what she likes most about the remodelled kitchen, our clients says ‘the room is very practical, but beautiful and comfortable too’ – the perfect combination!

Padstow Kitchen

This house has panoramic views over Cornwall’s beautiful north coast, the breathtaking surroundings have inspired the interiors with a palette of earthy colours and natural materials. Our client worked with interior designers Studio Far West and Lomax & Chi to create their dream beach house retreat. Built five years ago, this house has quirky features with the internal architecture ensuring life revolves around the kitchen. The soothing sage green cabinetry is punctuated with brass backed recessed handles and over time these will develop a rich patina. The glamourous island worktop is a stunning granite called Marinace Verde. This is a place to escape city living – a home from home – which works for all seasons. The open plan kitchen living room, includes a cosy fireplace for those wintry evenings. There is an intentionally retro feel to the design, with opaline pendants over the island and mid-century furniture elsewhere.

Victorian terrace Elm wood kitchen

It is often the case with a kitchen’s renovation that the main views are those looking out to a garden, but here interior architects and designers Much More Design have created a glorious scene looking towards the kitchen. They have not neglected the garden view as you will see, but the oak battened, asymmetrically pitched ceiling and walls of the snug frame the kitchen beautifully. Keeping the scheme warm, notice the palette is low on white and cool colours, the cupboard doors are Elm wood with toffee hues and a gorgeous swirling grain. In a little nod to the link between the kitchen and the cosy living room, the cupboards bridge the rooms, wrapping around to seamlessly form a recessed bookcase. This kitchen’s design reflects the priorities of this young family, parents who are passionate about good food and cooking and children who want to play! Hence there is some serious high tech cooking kit adjacent to a larder for practical storage of ingredients and we created a low run of bespoke shallow cupboards, designated for toys and craft. The island includes a Dekton waterfall edge and the same material is used for the worktop and splashback. This room is fairly narrow, but still manages to incorporate a dining table that sits next to the island, a clever layout solution for a family who love to share meals together.
