Victorian Villa Kitchen

Set in a beautiful Victorian villa on a tree lined street, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of a zone 2 London borough, the renovation of this kitchen started with much loved furniture our client wanted to centre the layout around – the mid-century marble topped Tulip dining table and Ernest Race red and yellow chairs. The backdrop to the bright pops of colour provided by these design classics, was to be a calm hue and Brockwell Moss feels just right.

The room has great proportions, with high ceilings and a large central window meaning there’s lots of natural light. Our design changed the layout of the kitchen significantly, removing cabinetry that had surrounded the window, with its picturesque views over neighbouring gardens and their old oak trees.

We dedicated one side of the space to storage with tall cabinetry, including a single-door larder – proper food storage was a non-negotiable; the Fisher & Paykel fridge, also on the ‘must-have’ list for the new kitchen, sits naturally in this double-height run. Here we have also included a handy nook for the kettle, coffee maker and toaster, which helps keep worktop space uncluttered.

The opposite side is for cooking and includes the sink and dishwasher and plenty of drawers. Open shelving displays treasured artworks, ceramics and curiosities, whilst balancing the tall cabinetry on the other side and keeping the room feeling spacious.

Wood finishes bring textures to the room with a little dash of Sweet Chestnut grain in the recessed handles, a rich walnut floor and speckled chips from the ‘timber terrazzo’ worktop by Foresso

This project featured in House Beautiful magazine and when asked what she likes most about the remodelled kitchen, our clients says ‘the room is very practical, but beautiful and comfortable too’ – most definitely the perfect combination!
