Padstow Kitchen

This house has panoramic views over Cornwall’s beautiful north coast and the breath-taking external surroundings have informed and inspired the internal scheme, with a palette of earthy colours and natural materials. Our client worked with interior designers Studio Far West and Lomax & Chi to create this, their dream beach house retreat.

Built five years ago, this house has quirky features, with internal architecture that ensures life revolves around the kitchen. Open hallways run along one side and the ceiling is at its highest in this area of the house – the Brockwell Moss cabinetry helps to ground the kitchen, contrasting with the light-filled double height pitched roof above.

The soothing sage green hue of the cabinetry is punctuated with recessed handles which have brass backs and over time these will develop a rich patina. The glamourous island worktop is a natural material, a stunning granite called Marinace Verde. This is picked up in a splashback of the wall cabinetry behind the island.

This is a place to escape hectic city living – a home from home – which works for all seasons. The open plan kitchen living room, includes a cosy fireplace for those wintry evenings. There is an intentionally retro feel to the design, with opaline pendants over the island and mid-century furniture elsewhere.
