The Wandsworth Kitchen in Wood and Green

The plans to revitalise this kitchen started with removing an internal wall, a rejig to make the room a little more open, a space better suited to our client’s young family and an opportunity to initiate a serious redesign of their kitchen’s layout. 

As befitting to most family kitchens, we incorporated a lot of storage in this room, yet it does not feel cupboard-heavy. There are a couple of reasons for this, the back wall’s open shelves and glazed cabinets are always a lighter alternative to wall cupboards. It means the main view of the kitchen feels lovely and layered with wall visible and glinting glass too. The second is the distribution of colour and wood that almost gives the impression of individual pieces of furniture, whilst keeping a 

Our client’s brief included a colour scheme to ‘love, that will work in all seasons’. There are two main Pluck materials – Brockwell Moss and London Plane. The warm tones and pretty flecked grain of the wood are accentuated and complimented by the green; a gentle shade evocative of nature that over the years has been described as olive and sage…the shade is in the eye of the beholder.

Elsewhere the delicate pink of the walls, the glossy, uneven cream tiles and the simple white quartzite worktop all contribute to the soothing feel of this space, a backdrop for the chaos of little people whizzing around!

A Pluck larder was also on the wishlist and fun has been had here with a cheeky pop of coral pink Ritzy in the internal scheme, along with lights. The larder’s top incorporates a structural beam – the best solution as lowering the whole run to sit below would lose valuable cupboard height. The bookshelf softens the transition between the kitchen and the rest of the room and also unites the two spaces, a bridge between the different areas of the room.

To cater for the coffee aficionado there is a dedicated nook for a Sage coffee machine. Imagine that first precious coffee of the day in this kitchen whilst the children buzz busily around…bliss!
