The De Beauvoir Town Kitchen

This kitchen is in a lower ground floor extension of a Grade II listed Victorian townhouse. Architects and interior design studio See Saw Studios reimagined the whole house, bringing new life to a building in need of love. On our visit we were shown around by beautiful Pom the chestnut spaniel, who couldn’t match his new kitchen more perfectly!

As with all lower ground floor rooms, a challenge was ensuring there is enough natural light. See Saw Studio’s design includes a large central rooflight, the layout of the island and other cabinetry informed by this, meaning the room has a very natural flow. Meanwhile, a large window forges a close connection with the garden.

The colour inspiration for this kitchen all started with a photograph, a piece of art that now hangs above the dining table. Under a sky of ombré blue, a teal taxi is upturned in a sandy irrigation ditch – observed and captured by photographer David Parker, our client says ‘most of his work is really stark, but this is really colourful’. An unusual scene to inspire a domestic setting and yet it works so well.

It’s a thrill to start with inspiration like this and we worked with See Saw Studios to create the scheme that includes three shades of Pluck blues, with Cherry wood too. The Cherry has warm reddish undertones that is complemented by the cooler blues. The worktops, splashback and table top are marble from Pena marble. The graphite and paler grey veining add a soft texture to the scheme…perhaps representing the shadows in the photograph!

Our lovely client sent the Pluck team the most beautiful note ‘Thank you for the wonderful kitchen, it’s the heart of our home. I now have the kitchen of my dreams’. This is why we love what we do!
