Kitchen Islands

Kitchen islands are popular for a reason, it is nigh on impossible to find another piece of furniture that will provide the same amount of storage, worktop and optional seating, whilst also incorporating appliances and powerpoints if needed.

We integrate Pluck’s islands into the space, so though they are a natural focal point; they don’t feel too heavy and dominant. Shelves are one way of doing this, a book shelf softens the transition with the rest of the room. Also the materials we use and the proportions of our designs are key.

The criticisms levelled at islands generally relate to their bulk and the fact they are immoveable, but we would counter – yes they are big – because they do so many things! We always tailor the dimensions to be in proportion to the room and their size means they can unite and pull an open plan space together. Plus in reality, when a kitchen is well designed, you will not move your cupboards around, your island will be in the right spot, that is the benefit of bespoke kitchen design.
