Surrey Modernist Kitchen

This kitchen is the vision of conservation architect Katharine Maclean who renovated her home for family life, whilst honouring the property’s modernist heritage. The kitchen is a long and rectangular space and with visual tricks, such as timber battening on the ceiling and vertical tiles on the island and splashback, the clever design creates the impression of a wider room. A white induction hob on the island blends into the Silestone worktop, making this plain of surface seem larger too. Though compact, we were able to incorporate lots of storage, including tall cabinets on either side of the room’s door which sit naturally next to this internal architecture. Here open shelves offer storage and display and a fun and practical alternative to what could have been a plain side panel. The palette throughout the ground floor of the house is calming with woods combined with soft and natural tones. The Half Moon White cabinetry reflects lots of natural light making the room feel bright and pops of Market Mustard on the shelves and inside the larder add little bursts of sunshine, along with the yellow FlowerPot pendant lights.
