Herne Hill Galley Kitchen

This kitchen shows how a successful galley design can work. The homeowners describe the room as ‘a bit of thoroughfare’, with two doors at both ends. Our design removed a peninsula that had jutted out in the old kitchen and we took away wall cabinetry on the hob side of the room. This makes the room feel uncluttered, with the view through to the dining room and original Victorian cupboards unobstructed. The family have lived in this house for 30 years and the design phase was a chance to appraise how they use the kitchen and consequently they overhauled their appliances, meaning space was gained and more eco-friendly models introduced. And the colour! Market Mustard with London Plane and a dash of Ritzy gives the kitchen such a positive feel.
