This beautiful painting has an ethereal feel thanks to the soft depiction of Canterbury Bells. The careful use of colour too adds to the hazy, dreamy atmosphere with purples, pinks, whites and a little gold against a linen hued background.
The original frame compliments the palette, though it is much more crudely painted.
The size of the vintage oil is unusual given its subject – with the flowers and vase being much larger than life.
This early twentieth century oil is not dated, but it is signed Hl. Th. Cartoux.
